Saint Laurent Homme SS13

All images courtesy of Saint Laurent & The Cut

I've been waiting what feels like ages to see Hedi Slimane's debut collection for Saint Laurent Homme. It's what Heidi does best, Rock n' Roll! Their's everything you need to look like a rock star: leather, skinny ties, leopard, and sequined jackets. One of my favorite pieces is the leather cumberbun. I didn't realize I wanted a leather cumberbun until now! That's what fashion is supposed to do isn't it? Make you want things you didn't realize you wanted before.

I'm already looking forward in possibly shooting this collection! Stay tuned...

Artisan Day at Barneys New York

Tomorrow, Barneys New York will be hosting Artisan Day at it's shop on Madison Avenue. They've invited denim makers and shirt makers, jewelry designers, sunglass makers, and luggage artisans. Barneys will also offer everything from chocolate tasting to knitting lessons by over 30 amazing designers and craftsman's. This sounds like a pretty cool event and an excuse to get out of the house and get your minds off the aftermath that is Sandy. Nothing better than retail therapy to assist with that!

Barneys New York is giving 10 percent of all sales from its Madison Avenue flagship on Sunday, November 4, to the American Red Cross.

Happy Shopping!

Miguel Antoinne Leopard Suit

Suit by Miguel Antoinne, Shirt and Visor by BodyBound,
Shoes Guiseppe Zanotti
It's always great to see a designer grow from small collections to opening their first shop. I have become a fan of Miguel Antoinne and I loved his men's fall collection entitled, 'Night Glamour,' which was inspired by European glamour and Eastern street fashion. When my eyes gazed upon this leopard suit I knew I had to feature it somewhere and had to have it! I styled this suit for IDOL Magazine's 'Almost Famous' shoot in our Kitsch Issue and just fell in love with the fit and texture. The Jacket is made by a super fine Italian wool blend and lined in silk. I do own the suit and it feels as good as it looks. Wear it as a suit or as separates; either way you will be making a bold statement.

Giuseppe Zanotti Homme Smoking Slipper

Giuseppe Zanotti
Price: $775
It's all about the smoking slipper for fall and I simply just fell in love with this pair in midnight blue velvet with crystal fringe by Giuseppe Zanotti. I had the pleasure of shooting this shoe for IDOL Magazine and it looks even better in person. Wear it with a suit or with black jeans and a blazer to add a bit of flash and sophistication to your outfit.

Margiela for H&M

(R) Mirrored Tuxedo Jacket
Price: $ 199
(L) Margiela Disco Jacket from Spring 09'
Images from the Margiela x H&M collaboration, which is slated to hit shops on November 15th, are now available and the collection feels very Margiela. As a fan, I really enjoy the collection and I think other fans will too. The price points are also amazing! If you have ever purchased anything from Margiela's mainline collection you would know they do not quite resemble these prices.

Margiela is known for deconstructing and transforming classic pieces, and his approach to design is very apparent in this awesome collaboration with H&M. For example, the navy and black Fusion of Two Jackets and the Reverse Denim Jacket. One of my personal favorites is a mirrored tuxedo jacket, which was a slightly altered version of the disco tuxedo jacket from Margiela's Spring 09' collection. Also, a piece that reek's of Margiela was a leather belt jacket, which was made up of leather belts in different colors like black, navy, brown, and cognac. That jacket is conceptually similar to the vintage baseball glove jacket from this past couture season.

Just think, when you sing along to, "Ni**as in Paris," and recite Kanye's line, 'What's that jacket? Margiela.' You actually are wearing Margiela, sort of.

(L) Leather Belt Jacket
Price: $399
(R) Fusion of Two Jackets
Price: $149

(L) Reverse Denim Jacket
Price: $129
(R) Trompe L'oeil High-Top

Marlon Gobel in IDOL Magazine

Photography by Eli Schmidt
I had the pleasure of interviewing Marlon Gobel for IDOL Magazine's Kitsch Issue. After leaving Marlon's man-glamourous Swarovski sponsored show I knew I had to feature the collection, which was one of my favorite's of the season. In this interview, we talk about what trends he's ready to see go-away, Elton John, and what it was like to work with Christian Louboutin.

Some of my favorite pieces from the collection were the Swarovski Crystal bow-tie, Navy Bullet-Dented Quilted Suit, and the Crystal Blue Armor Jacket to name a few. The quilted suit fits like a glove and is to die for. A perfect and cool updated version on the classic navy suit.

Essential Homme's Block Party

I fell in love with all the high waist trousers I saw on the runways for fall. So, for Essential Homme's September Issue I wanted to take a fun and youthful approach to Grandpa's trousers. I loved all the Phillip Lim trousers and sheer turtle necks. YSL and Juun J did fantastic elevated trousers as well.

The Perfect Fit in Your Suit

I cannot stress this enough: The key to menswear is fit and proportion. If those two bits are off you can either look like a cow or a slob. Sometimes both!

Black Gold

I'm a huge fan of leather and if I could wear it year round I would. After seeing so many collections with full on leather ensembles I could not wait to feature them in fall editorials. Check out this leather editorial I styled for Essential Homme's July/August: Fall Preview Issue, which was photographed by the talented Eli Schmidt. It's out on newsstands now!

Fleet Ilya x Comme des Garçons

For the men's spring 13 collections, Comme des Garçons collaborated with London based designers Fleet Ilya on a range of seven head pieces and tiaras for their spring collection. All seven styles were hand crafted in the United Kingdom and featured on all thirty-four looks presented in Paris and will be sold at all Comme des Garçons stores worldwide.

For those not familiar with Fleet Ilya on this side of the pond, they are a conceptual and cleverly utilitarian brand that produces leather goods for both men and women, as well as, a Restraint line of bondage luxury goods. You'll become just as obsessed as I am (peep the visors) and I'm totally looking forward in doing a massive pull and shooting these gorgeously clever made pieces.

The Art of Packing by Louis Vuitton

Packing is truly an art form. As a stylist, I've had to learn the best and most effective way to pack and make sure everything fits, whether it is for me or if I'm packing samples for a shoot.

Take a look at this vid and hopefully you'll learn a little something, I did! I never thought to pack shirts the way they did.

Paul Smith x John Lobb

Designer Paul Smith and boot-maker John Lobb have collaborated on three special edition shoes, which made their debut at the Paul Smith show in Paris on July 1st. They will be available on September 1, 2012 at John Lobb shops worldwide and at select Paul Smith shops.

They will be available in three styles: The Westbourne, an oxford, which features a punched toe with dyed to match laces, and the Willoughby, a plain vamp derby, which is offered in colorful cashmere suede. Both styles are fitted with shoes trees, stained and waxed in a lighter tone that compliments the hues of leather. The third style is the Lucca, a light and flexible loafer that is available in lightweight full-grained calf suede.

All three styles will be available in punctuation of color, which is a signature of Sir Paul Smith. Think Cherry Reds, Ocean Blues, Lapis, and Regal Purple to name a few. These shoes sounds like fun addition to any mans shoe collection and just in time for New York Fashion week!

Did A Fashion Coincidence Occur In Milan?

(R) A look from Moschino's SS 13 Collection
(L) A look from Marlon Gobel's SS 12 Collection

While reviewing the Milan menswear shows their was something very familiar about Moschino's Supermarket Chic runway show. From the set design that resembled the detergent aisle at an Italian supermarket, to the Budweiser-esque prints that dominated Moschino's runway I felt that I've seen these elements before. I then recalled a very similar set-design at New York designer Marlon Gobel's spring 12 collection. Marlon’s SUPER-MART set featured walls of Lays, Doritos, and Cheetos displayed as if you were at your local 7 Eleven. Marlon also debuted a Budweiser sweater tied around the waist on the stunning Sebastian Suave.

Although Marlon would not comment on the similarity between Moschino’s recent men’s collection and his spring/summer 12 Super-Mart inspired collection he did speak on why he referenced the very American idea of a Super-Mart and states, “It’s extremely sophisticated in the way that it’s created to entice you and draw you in and that’s what clothes are about. They’re there to draw attention to yourself.” The ideology of the supermarket has been a strong influence to many pop artists such as Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, and most recently Liu Bolin.
So my question is, was this a blatant knockoff of an up-and-coming designers collection or a mere coincidence?

Why Buy Shorts?

Denim shorts or cut-offs are an item I just refuse to spend money on. Why spend money on a new pair of shorts when you possibly have an old pair of jeans that fit, but you just do not wear. I was going through a bin of old jeans checking to see what fit, what didn't, and what was going to Good Will. I came across an old pair of Citizens of Humanity boot cut jeans from my early college days. Before the early stages of the skinny jean craze may I add. Anyway, when I tried them on they still fit really well and the last time I wore them was in college. I knew I desperately needed a new pair of shorts, so I cut them. Crisis averted and money well-saved!

Making jeans into shorts is really easy and it literally took me not even 15 minutes to make. Just mark where you want them cut, I'd suggest above-the-knee, especially if you have nice legs, and cut-away. Please keep in mind, after a wash they will shrink a bit so my advice when cutting is to leave room for shrinkage and not cut them too short. You do not need anything falling out of your shorts on the subway if you get my drift.

The funniest part of going through old jeans is finding the bits you forgot you had in your pocket. You might find money, those keys that just disappeared, or rolling papers like I did.
