Luxury Basic To Live In

A few years ago I went to the Adam Lippes sample sale when his label was known as Adam+Eve. I found this great cashmere hoodie with a waffle knit lining; I would have been a fool if I left without it. The price was perfect; it was at such a discounted price from the $500 price tag it retailed for.  I've had this hoodie for years and it has held up well; it's something I live it. A great layering piece and beats those tired, dull-colored A&F hoodies, gosh how those irk me. The cashmere feels amazing and the lining keeps you warm. Gilt.com has it on sale, so get it while it's hot; I guarantee it'll be gone by 4 p.m.

Happy Shopping.

$1K Jeans Anyone?

Ever try on a pair of jeans and say, "I wish this front button was plated in 18-karat gold." Or asked, "Why aren't these damn pockets lined in fine silk?" Well, my dear denim aficionados you may now say arrivederci to sleepless nights. Tom Ford's new jeans are hitting stores now, are made from Japanese selvedge denim that looks and feels raw. The denim has been pre-washed and pre-shrunken so the indigo doesn't rub off on your Calvin's. After all, nothing comes in between you and your Calvin's. The denim comes with a $990 price tag, will be offered in a boot cut and a straight-leg and will come in black and white. The silk lined pockets are made from the same silk as his suit linings. I can't wait to tease myself by paying a visit to the Madison Ave store and shimming my skinny little bum into a pair of those straight-legs. I will unfortunately leave empty handed with frozen tears drops upon my face because who can afford that now? Not I! [WWD]

Expect an update on the fit of these jeans.

Cheers to Gilt Groupe

Gilt Groupe hosted a private dinner on Thursday at Shang, a new restaurant located at the Thompson Hotel. Project Runway judge and Marie Clarie Editor Nina Garcia served as host alongside socialites Marjorie Gubelmann and Alex Kramer. The event was jam packed with designers and socials all there to raise a glass to Gilt Groupe.  A few notable designers were Doo Ri, Samantha Ronson, Peter Som, Adam Lippes and Isabel Toledo who received her own accolades for the beautiful ensemble she designed for First Lady Michelle Obama.

Gianfranco Ferre's Home Run

I've been following the F/W 09 shows in Milan like the fashion junkie that I am and so far the only show that I've gone mad for has been Gianfranco Ferre. Designers Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi, from defunct acclaimed Italian label 6267, have really put their foot into this menswear collection, so to speak. If it were imperative to put my coins into one collection that I have seen, Ferre would be the chosen one to burn the hole and max out my AMEX. Where's the Black Card when you need one? The thick chunky knit scarves were amazing; may I have one in every color please? The Duo reinvented the wool coat by adding volume and structure. The alligator coats were just as sick; they had this amazing stiff collar that stood straight up and with semi-gloss sheen. I will not fail to mention the broadtails coats; the gunmetal hooded coat was my favourite. If you have absolutely nothing to wear for that boring black tie wedding that you are forced to attend, Ferre has saved the day with a beautifully sequenced satin blazer. Seriously, start saving your coins for this collection because it's on to invest in.

Brad Pitt Gets It Right!

At the Berlin premiere of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Brad Pitt looked oh so perfect in an all black suit by Tom Ford. I love how the scarf is effortlessly wrapped around his neck and shoulders. I'm also keen on Brad's brown tie with the black suit. In my opinion, brown compliments black but black does not compliment brown. Imagine that Tom Ford suit in brown with black tie blech!

Cavalli's Minor Resemblance?

Doesn't this Roberto Cavalli F/W 09 studded jacket remind you of the Givenchy studded jacket from Fall 07? I don't expect Riccardo Tisci to unleash a scandal a la Armani's 'Trousergate'Both are sick and only share a slight resemblance. I'm actually quite fond of this Cavalli look. I didn't really care for the show as a hole but I do respect the fact that he took risk, for example, mixing American Indian inspired trousers with blue plaid shirts, not something I would particularly wear, but all in all a risk.

The fox fur lapel camel wool jacket was sick! I love what Cavalli does with pelts and exotics skins.  Another jacket I fell in love with was the gold sequenced leather jacket.  I can't stomach the rest of this outfit, but the sequenced jacket is so obnoxious, I love it.

Layering Steal

I'm uncertain if I can tolerate another 13-degree day in New York; I am contemplating hibernation. Although with my lack of posting some of you are pondering if I was in hibernation. To shield yourself from the harsh elements, here is a Michael Kors long sleeve jersey cotton pullover that will take you from fall to spring. This classic item will look great as a layering piece for leather jackets and coats; paired with dark denim and a pair of suede boots and you are good to go. It's a versatile piece at a sick price.
