Champagne With No Cork?

Image via Luxist

Their is a new system for opening a champagne bottle brought to you by Champagne house Duval-Leroy whom is the first to use this new closure putting it on their Clos de Bouveries Vintage 2004. The bottle seems much easier to open by simply lifting its lever. The million-dollar question, is does it still pop as you open? The answer is yes. If it didn't I don't think they would sell a bottle! That is the beauty of opening a bottle of champagne hearing that pop. But will this new feature take off? Only time will tell. To be honest, I would not want to see a lever on a vintage bottle of Perrier Jouet. Although convenient, the lever would be a total eyesore to that gorgeous bottle. Call me old fashioned, but popping that cork is part of the glamour of opening a bottle of champagne.
